Archives For Foundations

2012 has come to its inevitable completion (thankfully the Mayans were incorrect) and 2013 is inviting us to enter a new door full of uncertainty and hope.

This provides us with a wonderful opportunity to look back from whence we have come while looking ahead to see where we are being called to go.

For us the best way to do that is through the modus of our Mission, Vision, and Values statements. We posted these last year and will both review and update them today.

These are the guiding forces upon which this blog operates:

September 20, 2012: Today we exuberantly celebrate CaptivatingCappadocia.com’s FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy Birthday
We thank God that by most every measure this has been a successful first year, and we are proud to proclaim that we are the best Cappadocia website in the world! (Of course, we are not biased in that judgment ;)

We thought we would take this opportunity to give some statistics and recap the first year. This will give you a chance to see how you compare to the average reader.

Moss family Cappadocia

The Moss family has loved living in Cappadocia since 2004.
“Romania? Isn’t that like over the ocean?” said the middle-aged farmhand known as Clem, while graciously offering me a drink out of his 2 lt. jug of Mountain Dew, clasping it like a 20 oz. bottle purchased at a convenience store. “Heck, I’ve never been outside of Kidder County!”

Renovation
The site is up and running, but we are upgrading the theme to Standard 3.0 (if you are looking for a blog theme, this may be the best! – [affiliate link]). We expect to take a few days to finish tinkering but are excited for the changes.

In the end it may not look that different, but under the hood a heap of work has been done to make it a better experience for you and us.

If you have benefitted from the site, please take the time to give back a little by letting us know what you think of the changes and feel free to offer suggestions for further improvement.

Christian DedrickWhat do you do when you grow up in a family that went to Greek Festivals, attended Native American Indian Dance Exhibitions, and saw Carlos Montoya and Jose Feliciano live in concert? Well, if you were me (and it’s a good thing you’re not) you would build on that foundation by taking your wife and kids halfway across the world to learn another language and culture in Cappadocia, Turkey. I was born into a very interesting family. My parents grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Despite living only a mile apart, they lived on “opposite sides of the track.” My mom went with her parents to the theater in San Francisco; my dad watched his parents square dance at the Moose lodge. I grew up enjoying both! I lived in a small suburb of Sacramento, California where we could ride our bikes down dirt roads and have awesome dirt clod wars in the fields. But we could also drive an hour east or west and be in the city and night life of San Francisco or Lake Tahoe to get our culture fixes. The best of both worlds!
