Since I started reviewing books on this website, Tales from the Expat Harem: Foreign Women in Modern Turkey edited by Jennifer Eaton Gökmen & Anastasia M. Ashman is the most recommended book my readers have encouraged me to read. Given that I am a good listener and quick responder I took over a year to get to it… Oops!
All kidding aside I put off reading this book because I thought it was a book for women, and I am a not a woman. However, after numerous readers told me I should read it, I finally got the hint and am now reviewing it for y’all.

As with every month you are going to have to watch the video to see who won the signed copy of The Janissary Tree: A Novel by Jason Goodwin.
My dad is in town this week so I had him help pick the winner. Watch to meet him.
If you have not read The Janissary Tree: A Novel (and did not win), I highly recommend this mystery novel set in 1830s Istanbul with Yashim the Eunuch as the unassuming detective. Be careful though… you may get hooked and end up reading the whole series.
Congratulations to our winner!

This month we have a very special giveaway. Author Jason Goodwin has agreed to send a signed copy of The Janissary Tree: A Novel to one lucky winner which we will announce on March 28.
If you would like a signed copy of this detective thriller set in the Ottoman Empire, then check out our review and leave a comment on that page.

As we try to do most months, we asked our highlighted author for an interview, and Jason Goodwin was kind enough to answer our questions about his writing and his fascinating life. After reading his answers I am glad I asked, and I want to read more of his books. Hopefully he will visit Cappadocia at some point because I would love to meet him in person and ask all my other questions that I could not fit in this interview.
